2026 Toyota C-HR+ Quick Drive: A Closer Look
Toyota has finally introduced its first electric vehicle (EV), the bZ4X, after a long wait. Surprisingly, they are already following up with a new model, the Toyota C-HR+, which seems to be a highly promising addition to their lineup. The C-HR+ is a small SUV that offers a spacious interior and competitive features. Despite being similar in size to the bZ4X, it is expected to be more affordable due to its classification in a lower class.
To determine if the C-HR+ is a significant improvement over Toyota’s previous EV offerings, we took the prototype for a test drive in the outskirts of Paris. While Toyota Australia has not yet confirmed the C-HR+’s availability, it is worth considering its inclusion in the local market sooner rather than later.
The pricing for the Toyota C-HR+ in Australia is still uncertain, but it is expected to fall between the existing C-HR hybrid range and the bZ4X. A price range of $50,000 to $65,000 seems likely based on similar models from Toyota.
The interior of the Toyota C-HR+ boasts high-quality materials and a sense of solidity. However, the predominantly dark color scheme may give it a somber feel. The dashboard layout is functional, but some elements may seem like an afterthought. Despite these minor drawbacks, the cabin is comfortable and user-friendly.
Visibility from the front seats is excellent, but the rear-passenger area may feel a bit cramped and dark due to the design of the windows. The C-HR+ offers ample legroom and cargo space, comparable to larger SUVs in its class.
The Toyota C-HR+ comes with three powertrain configurations, including single-motor front-wheel drive models and a dual-motor all-wheel drive variant. The range-topping model offers impressive acceleration and range, making it a versatile choice for different driving scenarios.
In terms of driving experience, the Toyota C-HR+ is quiet and comfortable, with decent handling characteristics. While it may not be the most engaging car to drive, it excels in providing a smooth and relaxing ride.
The C-HR+ is expected to offer a range of equipment and safety features, with different trim levels catering to varying preferences. Toyota’s standard warranty and aftersales support apply to the C-HR+, ensuring peace of mind for prospective buyers.
Overall, the Toyota C-HR+ is poised to be a popular choice in the electric SUV market, offering a balance of performance, comfort, and practicality. Its competitive pricing and impressive features make it a compelling option for eco-conscious drivers.
