Advantest Corporation has revealed that it fell victim to a ransomware attack targeting its corporate network, potentially compromising customer and employee data.

The company, with a workforce of 7,600 and annual revenue exceeding $5 billion, detected unusual activity within its IT environment on February 15. Subsequently, they implemented incident response protocols, including isolating affected systems.

Advantest engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to assist in containing the threat and assessing its impact.

According to Advantest, preliminary findings suggest that the infiltrator deployed ransomware after gaining unauthorized access to parts of the network.

While no data breaches have been confirmed as of now, the situation remains under investigation, with the company prepared to directly inform affected individuals if data compromise is confirmed.

If any customers or employees are impacted, Advantest plans to provide guidance on mitigating risks.

As of the latest update, no ransomware groups have claimed responsibility for the attack on Advantest.

BleepingComputer reached out to Advantest for further details on the incident, but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Recent cyberattacks have targeted several Japanese companies, leading to data breaches and operational disruptions at entities like Washington Hotel, Nissan, Muji, Asahi, and NTT.

Advantest assures ongoing investigation and promises updates as new information surfaces.
