AI Artistry: Unveiling the Mystery of Crimson Desert’s Suspiciously Generated Creations
The Controversy Surrounding Crimson Desert’s Alleged Use of AI-Generated Art Assets
Crimson Desert has been the subject of much discussion lately, with players questioning the authenticity of certain in-game art assets. Some players have noticed that some of the artwork in the game appears to be AI-generated rather than human-made. This discovery has raised concerns about the game’s integrity and honesty.
European Gamer recently highlighted this issue, pointing out instances where in-game art shows characters with limbs in biologically impossible positions. One particular image depicts multiple people riding horses with anatomically incorrect limbs. This has led to speculation that Crimson Desert may be using AI-generated art without proper disclosure.

Additionally, there are concerns about drawings in the game that feature suspicious details, such as hands with mismatching finger counts. IGN even discovered a painting of a man engaging in strange activities with a dog/pig-like creature. Some players have also raised questions about the quality of the game’s translations, suggesting that AI may have been used in the process.
Developer Pearl Abyss has not yet addressed these allegations publicly. The focus of their recent updates has been on addressing gameplay issues rather than addressing the controversy surrounding the use of AI-generated assets. However, if the game is indeed using AI-generated art without disclosure, it could potentially violate Steam’s terms of service.
While the use of AI in game development is not uncommon, failing to disclose its use can be misleading to players. Transparency is crucial in maintaining trust and credibility within the gaming community. It remains to be seen how Pearl Abyss will respond to these allegations and whether they will provide clarification on the origin of the game’s art assets.
