Alexa Plus is now available to everyone in the US

Amazon has recently announced the availability of its generative AI-powered digital assistant, Alexa Plus, to all Prime members in the US. This service can be accessed through any Alexa-enabled device, Alexa.com, and the Alexa mobile app. For non-Prime members, a new free tier is available on the web and app, or they can opt for unlimited access to Alexa Plus for $20 a month without Prime membership.

Initially launched in March 2025 as part of an Early Access program, Alexa Plus has gradually expanded to tens of millions of users over the past year, according to Daniel Rausch, vice president of Alexa and Echo, in an interview with The Verge.

The more advanced and conversational Alexa Plus is now officially out of Early Access and accessible to all users in the US. Recent launches in Canada and Mexico have been followed by a closed Beta program in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, with Early Access availability expected in those regions.

In the US, the new tiers for using Alexa Plus are as follows:

  • Alexa Plus for Prime: Prime members and their households can enjoy unlimited access to Alexa Plus across various devices, Alexa.com, and the Alexa app for $14.99 a month or $139 a year.
  • Alexa Plus: For $19.99, users can access the same features as Prime members but pay an additional $5 per month without other Prime benefits.
  • Alexa Plus Chat: A new free option allows non-Prime members to experience Alexa Plus through a chat interface on Alexa.com and the Alexa app. This chatbot feature enables users to ask questions and conduct research similar to ChatGPT or Claude. Rausch mentions that usage of this tier will be limited.

Prime members using Echo devices will receive Alexa Plus through a software update, or they can opt for the upgrade by saying “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa Plus,” or logging in to their Amazon account on Alexa.com. Users have the option to decline the upgrade or revert to the old Alexa version after upgrading.

For users without Prime who wish to try Alexa Plus, they can visit Amazon.com/AlexaPlus.

Powered by large language models from Amazon Nova and Anthropic, Alexa Plus is a completely revamped version of Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. It has evolved from a basic command-and-control assistant to a more advanced “foundational AI assistant” capable of understanding and responding to natural language.
