Alvotech Secures €100 Million Loan for Growth and Innovation in Biotech Sector
Alvotech Secures €100 Million Senior Term Loan Facility for Strategic Priorities
Alvotech, a BioTech company based in Reykjavík, specializing in biosimilar medicines development and manufacture, has successfully secured a €100 million senior term loan facility. The purpose of this financing is to enhance liquidity and support the execution of the company’s strategic priorities in 2026.
The term loan facility carries an interest rate of 12.50%, payable monthly in cash, with a maturity date of 2 years. GoldenTree Asset Management led the transaction, replacing Alvotech’s previous working capital facility (ABL). This new structure provides the company with access to the full €100 million for the duration of the loan term, offering enhanced operational flexibility.
Chairman and CEO of Alvotech, Robert Wessman, expressed gratitude for the long-term commitment of financing partners at GoldenTree. He emphasized how this support strengthens the company’s ability to pursue growth plans, invest in research and development, and deliver high-quality biosimilars globally.
Founded in 2013 by Wessman, Alvotech aspires to become a global leader in the biosimilar sector. Biosimilars are biologic medicines that closely resemble existing approved biologic medicines, known as reference products. Alvotech currently has five biosimilars approved and marketed in various global markets.
The company’s development pipeline includes nine disclosed biosimilar candidates targeting autoimmune disorders, eye disorders, osteoporosis, respiratory disease, and cancer. Alvotech also announced successful financial placements and refinancing transactions in recent years to support its growth and innovation efforts.
Alvotech’s R&D pipeline comprises 30 products in development, with plans for four global product launches by 2026. The company is expanding its production capacity and strengthening its supply chain to support these launches. It has established commercial partnerships to facilitate market access in key regions worldwide.
