Amazon is set to lay off 2,303 corporate employees in Washington state, with a focus on its Seattle and Bellevue offices. This move comes as part of the company’s broader plan to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

The affected roles span various functions, including software engineers, program managers, product managers, designers, recruiters, and human resources staff. Notably, senior and principal-level positions are also included in the layoffs, reflecting Amazon’s strategic efforts to reduce bureaucracy.

CEO Andy Jassy’s push for increased efficiency through the integration of AI technologies has been a driving force behind these job cuts. Jassy had previously hinted at a shift towards a leaner corporate workforce, signaling a transition towards a more agile and productive organizational structure.

According to a memo from HR chief Beth Galetti, the layoffs are expected to continue into 2026, with potential further reductions in headcount. Reports suggest that the total number of layoffs could reach up to 30,000 employees by next year as Amazon progresses with its restructuring efforts.
