Amit Agarwal Takes the Helm of Seller Services as Dharmesh Mehta Steps into Role as Andy Jassy’s Trusted Advisor
New Leadership at Amazon’s Selling Partner Services
Amazon has announced a significant change in leadership for its Selling Partner Services division, with Amit Agarwal taking on an expanded role within the company.
Agarwal, who currently serves as the Senior Vice President of International Emerging Stores, will now lead the seller services and customer trust organizations in addition to overseeing Amazon’s stores in several countries, including India, Brazil, and South Africa.
The current Vice President of Worldwide Selling Partner Services, Dharmesh Mehta, will transition to a new role as technical advisor to CEO Andy Jassy in March.
Mehta’s move to the technical advisor position is a common stepping stone for senior leaders at Amazon, with past advisors including current CEO Jassy, who once served as a technical advisor to Jeff Bezos.
Following Mehta’s transition, Alex Dunlap, Jassy’s current technical advisor, will take on a new leadership role within Amazon.
Amazon’s third-party marketplace, which generated $42.5 billion in revenue last quarter, plays a significant role in the company’s operations, with independent sellers accounting for 62% of units sold on the platform.
The business has not been without its challenges, including regulatory scrutiny over issues such as Amazon’s treatment of third-party sellers.

Under Mehta’s leadership, Selling Partner Services has made strides in combating counterfeits and fraud, as well as offering logistics, supply chain management, and generative AI tools to sellers.
Mehta’s focus on addressing seller concerns, such as discontinuing the practice of commingling inventory from different sellers, has resulted in substantial cost savings for brand owners.
Agarwal, a seasoned Amazon executive with nearly 27 years of experience, previously served as a technical advisor to Bezos and played a key role in launching Amazon’s marketplace in India.
Based in Seattle, Agarwal will report to Worldwide Amazon Stores CEO Doug Herrington as he takes on his new responsibilities.
