Anthropic Acquires Coefficient Bio in $400 Million Stock Deal

In a significant move, Anthropic has acquired the stealth biotech AI startup Coefficient Bio in a $400 million stock deal. The acquisition, reported by The Information and Eric Newcomer, marks a strategic expansion for Anthropic in the healthcare and life sciences sector.

This acquisition comes on the heels of Anthropic’s recent announcement of Claude for Life Sciences in October. Claude for Life Sciences is a cutting-edge tool designed to support scientific researchers in their quest for groundbreaking discoveries.

The founders of Coefficient Bio, Samuel Stanton and Nathan C. Frey, bring a wealth of experience to the table. Having previously worked in computational drug discovery at Genentech’s Prescient Design, they launched Coefficient Bio just eight months ago. The startup’s primary focus is on utilizing AI technology to streamline drug discovery processes and enhance various forms of biological research.

With a team of approximately 10 talented individuals, Coefficient Bio is poised to join Anthropic’s health and life science division. This strategic integration is expected to drive innovation and further solidify Anthropic’s presence in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
