Anthropic expands from US with Paris and Munich hubs amid booming European growth

Anthropic, an AI company based in San Francisco and the brains behind Claude, has revealed plans to expand its reach in Europe with the opening of new offices in Paris and Munich. This move comes after a period of significant growth in the EMEA region, where Anthropic has tripled its workforce. The company already has a presence in London, Dublin, and Zurich, and the addition of hubs in Paris and Munich is expected to further strengthen its foothold in Europe.

The decision to expand in Europe aligns with a broader trend of increased AI investment activity across the continent. For example, Mistral AI in France secured €1.7 billion in Series C funding, while Nscale in the UK raised €958 million to enhance its AI cloud infrastructure. In Germany, Helsing received €600 million in Series D financing to scale its AI-driven defence technologies. This surge in AI investment highlights the growing importance of AI development in Europe.

Chris Ciauri, Anthropic’s Managing Director of International, emphasized the significance of Europe as a hub for innovative companies. He highlighted the importance of safety, reliability, and public trust in AI development, and expressed the company’s commitment to sustained growth in the EMEA region. Anthropic’s expansion into Europe reflects its dedication to meeting the needs of its European users and capitalizing on the region’s growing AI ecosystem.

With backing from tech giants like Alphabet and Amazon, Anthropic has seen significant growth, with a valuation of €158 billion ($183 billion). The company’s revenue in EMEA has increased more than ninefold over the past year, making it the fastest-growing region for Anthropic. The number of large business accounts in EMEA generating over $100k in revenue has also surged tenfold, indicating strong demand for Anthropic’s services in the region.

These partnerships underscore Anthropic’s ability to deliver precision and trust in AI solutions across different industries.

To support its growth in Europe, Anthropic has established a regional leadership structure, with key executives leading efforts in different regions. The company is also fostering local collaboration with educational institutions and cultural initiatives to promote AI education and innovation.
