Apple Accelerating Adoption of iOS 26 Among iPhone Users

It has been more than two months since the release of iOS 26 in September. While Apple has not provided official adoption numbers, analysts suggest that only around 30% of iPhone users have upgraded to Apple’s latest iOS for iPhone and iPad.

There are numerous reasons to consider upgrading to iOS 26. In addition to the new features like Liquid Glass and Call Screening, prioritizing your privacy and security with the latest enhancements should be a key factor in your decision to move on from iOS 18.

Some users are concerned about storage capacity, as iOS 26 requires up to 20 GB of available storage during the download process. Despite these concerns, Apple is actively encouraging users to switch to iOS 26. Previously, iOS 26 was positioned as an “Also Available” option below the more prominently displayed iOS 18 version on the update page.

Today, iOS 18 users will notice a change in this order: iOS 26 is now the top option, taking up more screen space, with iOS 18.7.2 listed as “Also Available” below it. It is evident that Apple is pushing for increased adoption of iOS 26. While security updates are still being released for iOS 18 users, it is anticipated that Apple will eventually discontinue support for iOS 18 on devices capable of running iOS 26. At that point, iOS 26 will be the only available update option. If you have security concerns, transitioning to iOS 26 will become necessary.

In June of this year, before the public release of iOS 26, Apple reported that 88% of iPhones and 81% of iPads released in the previous four years were running iOS 18. Although iOS 26 currently lags behind those figures, adoption is expected to increase significantly, potentially before the end of this year.

We believe that upgrading to iOS 26 is worthwhile, despite any initial adjustment period for you and your iPhone. Any impact on battery life should be temporary, and there are various ways to free up storage if needed.
