Apple AirTag 2: Upgrade Your Tracker with These 3 Essential Features
Apple has officially announced the arrival of the new AirTag tracker, confirming previous rumors. The latest iteration, referred to as the ‘new AirTag’ by Apple, boasts several enhancements compared to its predecessor.
The new AirTag maintains the same physical appearance as the original but introduces significant upgrades. For frequent travelers and individuals seeking improved functionality, there are three compelling reasons to consider upgrading from the first-generation AirTag released in 2021.
Enhanced Precision & Extended Range
The new AirTag facilitates the swift location of items such as keys, bags, or other valuables. This is made possible by the inclusion of an Ultra Wideband chip present in devices like the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Ultra 3, alongside an upgraded Bluetooth chip. According to Apple, users can now locate items from up to 50% further away than before.
Apple
Precision Finding assistance provides users with haptic, visual, and audio cues to pinpoint the location of their items effectively. Additionally, Precision Finding is now accessible through the Find My app on Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later.
Enhanced Audio Capability
The AirTag 2 features a doubled audio output compared to its predecessor, ensuring easier detection of its whereabouts. With a new distinctive chime, Apple claims that the device’s sound can now be heard from twice the distance as before.
Enhanced Security Features
This year’s AirTag tracker introduces a set of cutting-edge protections against unwanted tracking, including cross-platform alerts and regularly changing unique Bluetooth identifiers. Designed with a focus on privacy, the device is engineered to safeguard location data effectively.
Apple has implemented stringent security measures to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the integrity of the system.
Pricing and Availability
The new AirTag (2026) is now available for purchase at the same price point as its predecessor. Individual AirTags are priced at £29/$29, while a four-pack can be purchased for £99/$99, both including complimentary personalized engraving.
