Apple to Introduce Advertisement Opportunities in Maps App

Apple has announced that businesses will soon be able to purchase advertisements within its Maps app. These ads are expected to appear at the top of search results and in a new “Suggested Places” list. The feature is set to launch in the US and Canada this summer.

Enhanced User Experience with Suggested Places Feature

Apple describes the Suggested Places feature as a tool that offers recommendations based on local trends, recent user searches, and other factors. The company ensures that these ads will be clearly labeled within the app and that user location and interaction data will not be linked to Apple Accounts. Apple emphasizes its commitment to user privacy by stating that no user data is collected or shared with third parties, as all information is stored on the device.

Search Result Ads Based on Relevance

Following a report by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple is set to allow businesses to bid on keywords such as “sushi” to have their locations featured at the top of search results. Apple assures that ads in search results will be displayed based on relevance.

Apple’s New Business Platform for Advertisers

To facilitate ad purchases in Maps, retailers and restaurants can join Apple’s new Business platform, replacing previous initiatives like Apple Business Connect. This platform, launching on April 14th, is free and offers businesses a range of tools to manage their presence across various devices. Companies can access their brand profile, customize how their company is displayed in Apple’s apps, and manage tap-to-pay settings through the Apple Business platform.
