Apple Unveils Enhanced Default Web Browser Prompt in Latest iOS 17.4 Update
Apple recently announced that iPhone users in the EU will have the option to select a default web browser upon opening Safari for the first time after updating to iOS 17.4. More details about this process have been shared by the company.
According to Apple, the popup message in iOS 17.4 will display a list of the 12 most popular browsers from the App Store in the respective country. The list will be randomized for each user.
In addition to facilitating the selection of default browsers, iOS 17.4 will also allow third-party browsers using different web engines than Safari for the first time, but this change is exclusive to the European Union.

I wonder about their continuing stance on browser engines. I could (possibly) get it back when we were on iPhone 4. But today, even on macOS, Safari does not feel the fastest browser, and is definitely the worst in handling extensions.
