Apple Considering Intel as Production Partner for M-series Chips in 2027

Recent reports suggest that Apple may turn to Intel for the production of its M-series chips by 2027. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that Intel’s chances of becoming Apple’s latest “advanced-node supplier” have significantly improved. Kuo’s industry surveys indicate that Apple has a non-disclosure agreement with Intel to acquire the company’s 18AP PDK 0.9.1GA chips.

Intel is expected to deliver the PDK 1.0/1.1 kit to Apple in the first quarter of 2026. If all goes according to plan, Intel could start shipping Apple’s lowest-end M-series processor, built on the 18AP advanced node, in the second or third quarter of 2027. However, the timeline is contingent on the successful integration of the PDK 1.0/1.1 kit by Apple.

Kuo speculates that a partnership with Intel could demonstrate Apple’s commitment to “buying American” to the Trump administration by incorporating more US-based companies into its supply chain. For Intel, this deal could signify a positive turn in the company’s fortunes, with potential orders from Apple and other tier-one customers for future chip designs.

The question remains: will Apple finalize a deal with Intel and opt for the chipmaker’s 18AP processors for its entry-level M-series? The answer to this could reshape the landscape of the semiconductor industry in the coming years.
