If you have not yet transitioned to the new Apple Home system, it is crucial to do so immediately. As of tomorrow, your smart home devices may cease to function within the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. This change is due to Apple ending support for the original HomeKit architecture on February 10, 2026.

Impact on iPad Users

Users who rely on an iPad as their Apple Home Hub will be most affected by this change. The new Apple Home system no longer supports iPads as hubs, requiring a HomePod or Apple TV to fulfill that role. Additionally, the updated architecture mandates that your phone and all connected devices must be running iOS 16.2 or later (or macOS 13.1/watchOS 9.2 or higher).

Introduction of the New Apple Home System

The new Apple Home architecture was fully launched with iOS 16.4 in 2023, representing a complete overhaul of the platform. This rebuild aimed to enhance performance and reliability, while also integrating support for Matter, a new smart home standard co-developed by Apple that incorporates HomeKit as its foundation.
