Apple to Launch Affordable Mac Laptop Powered by iPhone Chip in 2026

In a recent report by Bloomberg, it has been revealed that Apple is currently working on a low-cost Mac laptop that will be powered by an iPhone chip. The tech giant plans to introduce this new laptop in the first half of 2026. According to the report, the upcoming laptop will feature a lower-end LCD display and a screen size slightly smaller than the current 13.6-inch screen on the MacBook Air. Apple aims to price the laptop at “well under $1,000,” falling within the same range as the entry-level iPad and Magic Keyboard Folio.

Historically, laptops with Apple Silicon have utilized M-series chips. However, Apple’s internal tests indicate that the iPhone chip may outperform the Mac-optimized M1 chip used in previous laptops. This new laptop will boast an entirely new design and will target more casual users, students, and businesses, as per the Bloomberg report.

Earlier predictions by supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggested that Apple is working on a more affordable MacBook featuring an A-series chip. Kuo mentioned that the laptop would be equipped with the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro lineup and would be available in various colors such as silver, blue, pink, and yellow.

Furthermore, Apple has reportedly completed development on a MacBook Air powered by the recently-introduced M5 chip, set for an early release next year. Additionally, MacBook Pros featuring the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are also in the pipeline, according to the Bloomberg report.
