iOS 26.4.1 fixes iPhone bug that stopped iCloud data from syncing, including Apple Passwords

iOS 26.4.1 Update Fixes Critical iCloud Bug

An important update, iOS 26.4.1, has been released today. Although the release notes were brief, it has been revealed that this update addresses a crucial bug related to iCloud data syncing.

Developers had identified a significant issue where iPhones running iOS 26.4 were not receiving iCloud change notifications, resulting in a disruption in cloud data synchronization for apps utilizing the CloudKit framework, including Apple’s Passwords app. The new iOS 26.4.1 version has rectified this problem.

The iCloud bug had been somewhat overlooked, affecting numerous third-party apps that depended on the CloudKit framework, such as Drafts.

This issue caused changes made on one device by a user to not be automatically synced with iPhone and iPad clients. Affected developers had no choice but to report the bug to Apple and await the operating system fix, which has now been implemented.

Not only were third-party apps impacted, but some Apple services that relied on CloudKit infrastructure, like the shared passwords feature in the Apple Passwords app, were also affected.

If you’ve been experiencing data syncing issues with your iPhone apps while running iOS 26.4.0, updating to iOS 26.4.1 is recommended. The issue also affects iPadOS 26.4.0, but macOS Tahoe 26.4 did not encounter the same problem.

To update your phone, navigate to Settings -> General -> Software Update and install iOS 26.4.1. For beta program participants, the bug has already been resolved in the latest release of iOS 26.5.
