Ayaneo says selling its Windows gaming handheld ‘is no longer sustainable’

Ayaneo Halts Preorders for Next 2 Gaming Handheld Due to Soaring Storage Costs

Ayaneo has announced the suspension of preorders for its highly anticipated Next 2 gaming handheld, priced at $1,999, citing the unprecedented surge in digital storage prices. In a recent announcement, Ayaneo revealed that the production cost of its Windows-based device has nearly doubled from its initial estimates, rendering the current pricing model “unsustainable.”

According to Ayaneo, the decision to pause preorders was prompted by the continuous escalation of storage costs in recent months. Despite anticipating a potential peak in prices prior to the Next 2 launch, the company proceeded with the release, even at the risk of minimal profits or slight losses. However, the unexpected rapid acceleration of storage prices has forced Ayaneo to reevaluate its pricing strategy.

While existing preorders for the Next 2, which commenced on February 10th, will be fulfilled, Ayaneo clarifies that the suspension is temporary. The Next 2 boasts impressive features such as a 9.06-inch OLED display, a base Ryzen AI Max 385 processor, integrated Radeon 8050S graphics, 32GB of memory, and 1TB of SSD storage. Ayaneo assures customers that the possibility of resuming sales remains on the table, contingent upon a potential decrease in storage prices in the future.
