Australia’s Best-Selling Utes Go Head-to-Head in Tough Off-Road Test

In a rigorous industry test for off-road vehicles, Australia’s top-selling utes were challenged to prove their capabilities against each other. However, not all contenders managed to conquer the challenging terrain on their first attempt.

The test was documented in a video on the CarExpert YouTube channel, filmed at The Springs 4×4 Park in The Glen, Queensland. This park is known for Beer O’Clock Hill, one of the toughest off-road hill climbs in Australia, providing a perfect setting for back-to-back testing on private property.

Various car manufacturers were invited to participate, showcasing a diverse range of models from the Mahindra Pik-Up to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Each vehicle was put through its paces on the challenging course.

Despite the high expectations for the Toyota HiLux GR Sport, it encountered mechanical issues during the course, highlighting the unpredictable nature of off-road challenges.

While off-road tyres were an option for the manufacturers, the HiLux attempted the hill climb on stock tyres, emphasizing the importance of vehicle setup in demanding conditions.

Following the initial setback, the HiLux made a second attempt at the course, showcasing determination despite the challenges. However, Toyota was unable to provide a newer model for the event.

Among the other models tested were the Ford Ranger Raptor, GWM Cannon, Mitsubishi Triton GSR, Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series, and Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition, providing a comprehensive comparison of off-road capabilities.

While not all 4×4 owners may face challenges as extreme as Beer O’Clock Hill, the results offer valuable insights for those seeking a capable off-road vehicle.
