2026 BMW iX3: A New Era in Electric SUVs

The unveiling of the 2026 BMW iX3 marked a significant shift in the landscape of electric SUVs. This second-generation vehicle bears little resemblance to its predecessor, with a complete overhaul in design, technology, and features. From the exterior styling to the interior details, the “NA5” is essentially a brand new model in the BMW lineup.

One of the standout features highlighted by BMW in their press release is the introduction of a white steering wheel. This bold design choice will be available as an Individual option for iX3 units manufactured from March 2026, exclusively paired with the Digital White interior theme.

Interestingly, BMW has confirmed that the white steering wheel will be accessible across all trim levels of the iX3, including the base model, M Sport, and M Sport Pro. Customers will have the freedom to opt for this unique upgrade without having to choose a higher-end variant.

Mark Berger, the iX3’s product manager, mentioned that the design of the white steering wheel is derived from the black Sport steering wheel, with the omission of the M badge at the bottom. The updated roundel logo on the steering wheel reflects BMW’s modern design language, featuring a sleeker and more refined appearance.

M Steering Wheel Expansion

In a surprising move, BMW has announced that the premium M steering wheel will no longer be exclusive to the M Sport Pro Package. Starting from March 2026, this upgraded steering wheel will be available on the non-Pro version and even the base trim of the iX3. Speculations suggest that this design will become standard on the anticipated iX3 M60, expected to debut in the latter half of the following year. The high-performance M Performance version is projected for production in July, with initial deliveries scheduled towards the end of the year.

While details are not yet confirmed, BMW has hinted at a full-fledged M version of the iX3 set to commence production in late 2027. Whether this model will feature the same steering wheel as the M Performance variant or receive a unique design remains uncertain. However, the presence of camouflaged prototypes indicates that the release of this flagship model is imminent.
