Enhanced Video Calling Experience for iPhone and Android Users

The GSM Association (GSMA) recently unveiled the RCS Universal Profile 4.0 standard, which is set to revolutionize the way iPhone and Android users communicate through their messaging apps. This new standard will enable users to seamlessly transition from 1-to-1 or group RCS chats to video calls using a feature called Messaging-Initiated Video Calls (MIVC).

According to the GSMA, MIVC will allow group members to join an ongoing video call that they initially missed and synchronize MIVC logs within the chat timeline. This feature will pave the way for a more integrated and interoperable video call experience across various devices and networks.

While the potential of MIVC is promising, both Apple and Google have yet to announce their support for this feature. As a result, it remains uncertain when users will be able to initiate video calls across different platforms directly from their messaging apps. Apple and Google have not provided any official statements regarding their stance on MIVC.

In addition to video calling capabilities, RCS Universal Profile 4.0 also introduces support for text formatting options such as bold, italics, and strikethrough in messages. Furthermore, users can now share higher quality audio, video, and images through their messaging apps, enhancing the overall communication experience.
