Boston Dynamics amazed audiences at CES 2026 with a sneak peek of the humanoid robot Atlas showcasing its impressive capabilities on stage. The production version of Atlas, as revealed, boasts cutting-edge features that push the boundaries of robotics technology.

Zach Jackowski, the vice president, and general manager of Atlas at Boston Dynamics, along with Aya Durbin, the product lead of humanoid applications, divulged some of the remarkable specifications of Atlas. Notably, this iteration of Atlas is equipped with 56 degrees of freedom, predominantly featuring fully rotational joints. It also sports human-scale hands with tactile sensing in the fingers and palms, enabling intricate and precise manipulation tasks.

Moreover, Atlas is outfitted with 360-degree cameras that grant it omnidirectional vision, allowing it to perceive approaching individuals. Impressively, the robot can lift up to 110 pounds, demonstrating its robust strength. Additionally, Atlas is engineered to withstand real industrial environments, being water-resistant and operable within a wide temperature range from -4°F to 104°F, as confirmed by the executives.

Excitingly, Atlas is already in production, with Jackowski revealing that the entire 2026 production capacity has been allocated to Hyundai Motor Group and their “new AI partner.” Stay tuned for further updates on this groundbreaking development in robotics.
