OpenAI Introduces Ads in ChatGPT: What You Need to Know

OpenAI has recently begun testing advertisements within ChatGPT for free and $8 Go accounts. The rollout of these ads is already underway, particularly on Android devices.

According to reports, OpenAI has designed a full-screen onboarding experience to familiarize users with the concept of ads in ChatGPT.

During the onboarding process, OpenAI assures users that the inclusion of ads will not impact ChatGPT’s responses. Ads will be clearly marked and separated from the chat interface.

While user data remains private, the content of ongoing chats may influence the type of sponsored ads displayed below ChatGPT’s responses.

OpenAI offers users the ability to hide ads, view the reasons for specific ad placements, and clear ad-related data.

Advertisements are clearly labeled as “Sponsored” blocks, with options to interact with the ad by hiding it, reporting it, or seeking further information from ChatGPT.

OpenAI’s primary goal remains ensuring that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. The inclusion of advertising aims to make AI more accessible while supporting this mission.

OpenAI emphasizes that user conversations are kept confidential from advertisers, and user data will never be sold.

Furthermore, OpenAI has introduced an “Ads controls” section in the settings, allowing users to manage their ad history and preferences.

Within the “Ads controls” page, users can delete ad-related data without affecting their chats and choose to personalize or disable ad content.

Despite these controls, ad placements may still be influenced by the ongoing conversation within ChatGPT.

According to OpenAI, ads will not be displayed for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users.
