Comcast cable boxes are getting Amazon Luna cloud gaming

Amazon’s Luna Cloud Gaming Service Expanding to Cable Boxes from Comcast and Rogers

Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming service is set to reach a wider audience as it expands to cable boxes offered by Comcast and Rogers. The Luna app, which is already accessible through various platforms such as web browsers, Fire TV devices, Fire tablets, and select smart TVs from Samsung and LG, will now be available on “millions” more devices, as confirmed by Amazon.

Starting Thursday, Luna will be accessible on “eligible” X1 and Xfinity Xumo Stream Box devices in the US, and on the Rogers Xfinity Stream Box in Canada, according to Amazon’s announcement.

The integration of Luna into Comcast’s and Rogers’ cable boxes comes after Amazon’s recent revamp of the service. One of the key features of the new Luna is “GameNight,” which offers a selection of local multiplayer games that can be played using a smartphone as a controller. This includes a game developed by Amazon Game Studios featuring an AI-powered character named “Judge Snoop Dogg.”

Shortly after the launch of the updated Luna service, Amazon made headlines with announcements of significant changes within its gaming division, including widespread layoffs and the decision to move away from massively multiplayer online games (MMOs).
