OpenAI is considering introducing advertisements on ChatGPT for users in the United States who have a free or $8 Go subscription. However, the cost of these ads could potentially be quite high for advertisers.

While OpenAI has not disclosed the exact pricing for placing ads within the AI-generated answers, it is expected to be a significant investment for businesses.

Current information suggests that ChatGPT ads will be displayed below the AI-generated responses. OpenAI has assured users that their personal information, including sensitive data like health information, will not be used to train the ad models.

Furthermore, OpenAI has emphasized that the ads will not influence the answers provided by ChatGPT.

What Will Advertisers Pay for ChatGPT Ads?

While OpenAI has not revealed specific pricing details, a recent report from The Information sheds some light on the rates the company is considering internally.

OpenAI is contemplating charging up to $60 per 1,000 views for ChatGPT ads, a rate comparable to live NFL broadcasts.

Despite this pricing structure, OpenAI has chosen not to disclose the click-through rates (CTR) of the ads.

This decision aligns with the low CTR expected due to ChatGPT’s nature, which does not prioritize driving clicks to external sources. As a result, OpenAI has opted for a flat rate of $60 per 1,000 views.

“OpenAI has informed early advertisers that they will receive data on impressions and total clicks for their ads,” a media buyer revealed. “Advertisers will receive insights such as total ad views, similar to what is offered by TV networks,” an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed.
