Romania’s Conpet Confirms Data Theft in Qilin Ransomware Attack

Recently, Romania’s national oil pipeline operator, Conpet S.A., fell victim to a cyberattack by the Qilin ransomware gang. The attack resulted in the theft of company data, as confirmed by Conpet S.A. in a press release.

Despite the breach in the corporate IT infrastructure, the operations of Conpet S.A. remained unaffected. The company assured the public that they are working closely with the Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) to investigate the incident.

According to a statement provided to BleepingComputer, the Qilin ransomware attack led to data exfiltration from Conpet’s systems. The exact amount of data stolen is yet to be determined due to the ongoing investigation.

The Qilin gang claims to have taken nearly 1TB of documents from Conpet, including 16 leaked images of internal documents containing sensitive financial information and passport scans. Some of these documents are marked as confidential, with dates as recent as November 2025, and contain personal data such as names, addresses, identification numbers, and bank account details.

Conpet S.A. issued a warning in their latest update, stating that the compromised data could be used for fraudulent activities. Individuals affected by the breach are advised to be cautious of any urgent requests received via phone, email, or other channels.

Scammers often impersonate employees of reputable organizations to extract personal or financial information for fraudulent purposes. It is crucial to verify the authenticity of such requests by contacting the organization through official channels listed on their website or verified social media accounts.
