Crunchy Rush: The Mighty Adventures of Mightreya
Discovering Mightreya: A New Action Video Game Demo
I’ve been following Mightreya since its early stages, when it was just snippets of an anime girl performing impressive stunts and battles in simplistic levels. Now, it has evolved into a full-fledged action video game, featuring a more unique anime girl engaging in thrilling gameplay with added context. The game has recently released a demo, which I had the opportunity to try out and will share my experience with you.
Upon first glance, Mightreya reminded me of games like Gravity Rush, a personal favorite of mine. While it does not involve gravity manipulation, the game offers its own set of engaging qualities as you soar through the skies.

The protagonist of Mightreya is Reya, a high school student who doubles as a superhero live streamer. Accompanied by her pink-haired manager Nio, who captures her adventures on camera, Reya’s livestream feed appears in the corner of the screen, adding a unique touch to the gameplay experience.
In a world infested with kaiju, players must defeat these monstrous creatures in dynamic and flashy combat sequences. The game incorporates elements reminiscent of Devil May Cry, including a combo ranking system that rewards players for executing diverse moves to entertain their virtual audience. The combat mechanics feel satisfying and impactful, offering players a taste of superhero prowess during battles.
However, mastering the game’s controls can be a challenge, as nearly every button on the controller is utilized. While there is a learning curve, particularly for combo enthusiasts, the gameplay mechanics are immersive and rewarding once you adjust to them.
As a demo, the full narrative of Mightreya remains unknown, and some players may be hesitant due to its anime-inspired theme. Nevertheless, the game is worth exploring if you’re seeking a temporary escape until the next installment in the Devil May Cry series. You can experience the demo on Steam now.
