A New 2D Metroidvania Game Set in the Castlevania Universe

Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin have recently unveiled an exciting new addition to the Castlevania series with the upcoming release of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. This 2D side-scrolling metroidvania game is scheduled to launch this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC platforms.

Continuing the legacy of the beloved Castlevania franchise, Belmont’s Curse takes place more than two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, immersing players in the haunting atmosphere of 15th century Paris. Players will step into the shoes of Trevor Belmont’s successor, tasked with venturing into the city to confront monstrous creatures and explore a mystical castle that threatens to engulf Paris in eternal darkness.

A Collaboration of Esteemed Developers

As Castlevania celebrates its 40th anniversary, fans are in for a treat with the announcement of this new installment in the series. Motion Twin, the original studio behind the critically acclaimed Dead Cells, is providing advisory support for Belmont’s Curse. The primary development responsibilities lie with Evil Empire, a studio established in 2019 to continue the success of Dead Cells. With the support of Konami, these developers are working tirelessly to bring this new Castlevania adventure to life.

Evil Empire’s expertise in the Castlevania universe was demonstrated with the release of “Return to Castlevania,” the final expansion for Dead Cells. This successful collaboration laid the groundwork for their involvement in Belmont’s Curse, promising fans an engaging and immersive gameplay experience.

A Fresh Approach to the Castlevania Series

Unlike their previous projects, Belmont’s Curse deviates from the roguelite genre, offering players a more traditional metroidvania experience. Described as a “2D Action-Exploration” game, this new installment is poised to captivate both longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike. With Evil Empire’s proven track record and Motion Twin’s advisory role, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a title worth keeping an eye on.
