Data Breach Alert: Hackers Target ‘Woke’ University of Pennsylvania Students
University of Pennsylvania Community Alerted to Email Hack
Members of the University of Pennsylvania community recently received alarming emails from addresses associated with its Graduate School of Education, indicating a potential security breach. The messages, purportedly from hackers, contained derogatory remarks about the institution’s practices and security.
The emails criticized the University of Pennsylvania, calling it an elitist institution with lax security measures and questionable admission practices. The hackers accused the university of favoring legacies, donors, and unqualified affirmative action admits, and alleged violations of federal laws like FERPA and Supreme Court rulings like SFFA.
The hackers specifically mentioned the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) in their emails, highlighting concerns about student privacy and affirmative action policies.
In response to the incident, the University of Pennsylvania issued a statement acknowledging the fraudulent emails. The university’s Office of Information Security is actively investigating the situation and working to address any potential security risks.
