Amazon Cancelling Metroid Prime 4 Pre-Orders
Excitement has been building for the release of Metroid Prime 4, which is expected to hit shelves this year. However, it appears that Amazon has started cancelling pre-orders for the highly anticipated game.
It’s hard to believe that it has been eight years since the initial announcement of Metroid Prime 4, with a significant six-year development restart at Retro Studios. Nintendo finally reintroduced the game last year with the addition of “Beyond” as a subtitle, even showcasing gameplay for the first time. Despite the long wait, many fans have had their pre-orders in place since the game was first revealed. But for those who pre-ordered through Amazon, it may be wise to double-check as reports have surfaced online of cancelled orders.
Several users on the Metroid subreddit have shared their experiences of having their Amazon pre-orders cancelled, some mentioning that they had pre-order discounts applied. Amazon typically does not offer discounts for video game pre-orders, so it’s understandable that the company would retract these offers. Additionally, there is speculation that Nintendo may price Metroid Prime 4 at $70, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
One user on Resetera shared an email notification they received from Amazon explaining that the cancellation was due to “a lack of availability.” This led to playful speculation that the game may become a Switch 2 exclusive, although it seems unlikely given Nintendo’s recent commitments to the Nintendo Switch platform. It would be a surprising move from Nintendo, especially since they recently released a list of games planned for the Nintendo Switch in 2025.
While the cancellations may be frustrating for those who had discounts applied to their pre-orders, it may be best to explore other retailers for purchasing Metroid Prime 4. Amazon’s decision to cancel pre-orders emphasizes the importance of staying up to date with the latest developments in the gaming industry.
