Einride Secures $113 Million Ahead of Public Debut

Einride, a Swedish startup known for its electric trucks and autonomous pods, has successfully secured an oversubscribed $113 million PIPE (private investment in public equity) as it prepares for its public debut in the first half of 2026.

The company’s decision to go public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, Legato Merger Corp., was announced last November. This move has attracted significant investor interest, with the PIPE exceeding the initial target of $100 million.

Despite a slight drop in valuation to $1.35 billion from the initial $1.8 billion figure attached to the SPAC deal, Einride’s investor base remains strong. The PIPE funding includes contributions from both new and existing investors, such as a global asset management company based on the West Coast of the United States and Stockholm-based EQT Ventures.

Combined with $100 million in previously announced crossover financing, Einride has now secured around $213 million in connection with this transaction. The total gross proceeds from the SPAC and PIPE are projected to reach approximately $333 million before redemptions and expenses, with the possibility of seeking additional capital before closing.

These funds will be instrumental in supporting Einride’s technology development, global expansion, and autonomous deployments across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. The company currently operates a fleet of 200 heavy-duty electric trucks in multiple regions, serving clients like Heineken, PepsiCo, Carlsberg Sweden, and DP World.

Einride’s Expansion and Autonomous Technology

Aside from its electric trucks, Einride has also made strides in deploying autonomous pod-like vehicles with select customers such as Apotea in Sweden and GE Appliances in the U.S. The company’s operations extend beyond Sweden, covering territories in Europe, North America, and the UAE.

In recent years, Einride is not the only autonomous vehicle company to utilize a SPAC merger for additional funding. Aurora Innovation and Kodiak AI have both pursued similar avenues, with Aurora Innovation going public through a $13 billion SPAC merger in 2021 and subsequently launching a commercial self-driving truck service.

Einride’s upcoming listing on the New York Stock Exchange signifies a significant milestone for the company as it continues to innovate in the autonomous vehicle industry. With a strong financial backing and a clear roadmap for growth, Einride is poised to make a lasting impact on the future of freight transportation.
