Empowering Compliance: DETANGLE Enhances EU Cybersecurity Regulations
The Importance of EU Cybersecurity Regulations: The DETANGLE Project
The DETANGLE cybersecurity project has officially launched in Athens with the aim of assisting critical EU sectors in navigating complex cybersecurity regulations. This initiative, led by ITML and co-funded by the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC), has a substantial budget of nearly €7m.
Strengthening EU Cybersecurity Regulations
The primary goal of the DETANGLE project is to enhance the implementation of key EU cybersecurity regulations, including the NIS2 Directive, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and the Cybersecurity Act (CSA). These regulations are crucial for critical sectors such as energy, healthcare, transport, and digital infrastructure.
Significance of EU Cybersecurity Regulations
In today’s interconnected world, adhering to EU cybersecurity regulations is no longer optional but essential. These regulations play a vital role in protecting critical sovereignty, ensuring economic stability, and maintaining supply chain integrity.
Protecting Critical Sovereignty
Enforcing cybersecurity regulations helps safeguard the EU’s technological sovereignty by preventing cyber threats from causing widespread disruptions. Standardizing security measures eliminates vulnerabilities that could be exploited by foreign adversaries or cybercriminals.
Economic Stability and Consumer Trust
Compliance with cybersecurity regulations signals market strength and resilience. It enables the financial sector to withstand digital disruptions and builds consumer trust in certified brands that prioritize data security.
Supply Chain Integrity
EU regulations focus on ensuring the security of the ICT supply chain by promoting “security-by-design.” This proactive approach transforms cybersecurity into a fundamental element of European safety and democratic resilience.
Challenges and Solutions
Implementing regulations like the NIS2 Directive poses challenges for SMEs and national authorities. DETANGLE will address these issues by developing innovative solutions, including an AI-based incident management platform.
Monitoring and Enforcement Tools
DETANGLE will create the NIS2 Compliance Tracker for gap analysis and compliance monitoring. It will also offer a certification support framework and a toolkit for enforcing the CRA, focusing on compliance verification and risk notification.
Enhancing Cyber Resilience
Overall, the DETANGLE project aims to enhance cyber resilience, reduce compliance costs, promote cross-border cooperation, and provide support to SMEs and national authorities in navigating EU cybersecurity regulations.
