Empowering Startups with Arm’s Edge AI Platform: Flexible Access for Innovation

Arm has unveiled its latest edge AI platform, Armv9, and is making it available to startups through its Flexible Access program. This initiative allows chip designers to test Arm technology before making a financial commitment, offering low-cost or even free access to a range of resources. This approach has proven successful, with around 400 chip designs created in the last five years, including those by well-known companies like Raspberry Pi, Hailo, and SiMa.ai.
The Armv9 edge AI platform combines the powerful Arm Cortex-A320 processor with the Arm Ethos-U85 NPU, enabling devices to run AI models locally without the need for a cloud connection. This technology is poised to drive the next generation of edge AI applications, such as intelligent cameras, smart home devices, and interactive robots.
Privacy and security are key benefits of on-device processing, as it allows machines to process data locally without compromising personal information. The Armv9 platform includes security features like Pointer Authentication Code (PAC) and Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) to ensure data safety.
According to research, AI is set to become the dominant technology in IoT projects by 2028, with Arm playing a central role in this transformation. For developers eager to explore edge AI, the Arm Cortex-A320 will be available through the program in November 2025, followed by the Ethos-U85 AI processor in early 2026.
In addition, NVIDIA GPUs are set to power Oracle’s next-generation enterprise AI services, further shaping the landscape of AI technology.
