Crackdown on Modified and Noisy Vehicles in Sydney’s North Shore

Authorities, including Police and vehicle safety inspectors, have recently conducted an operation targeting modified and noisy vehicles in Sydney’s North Shore area. The operation took place at Milsons Point, located on the lower North Shore, on Saturday, November 15.

According to the NSW Police Force, the Milsons Point, Blues Point, and Kirribilli areas have been experiencing a high volume of modified and noisy vehicles during weekday and weekend nights. In response to this issue, an inspection station was set up in Burton Street to address the problem.

During the operation, officers from the Northern Sydney Sector Highway Patrol, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) vehicle safety inspectors, and personnel from the NSW Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were involved in inspecting vehicles and drivers. A total of 70 breath tests and 15 oral fluid tests were conducted, with three drivers testing positive for oral fluid.

All 13 cars inspected by TfNSW inspectors were found to have defects, with six of them being classified as ‘major grounded.’ Defect notices are issued when a vehicle is deemed to pose an imminent and serious safety risk.

In addition to vehicle defects, EPA personnel identified seven vehicles that did not meet noise pollution standards. A total of 47 traffic infringement notices were also issued during the operation.

This is not the first time authorities have targeted illegally modified and defective vehicles in the Milsons Point area. A previous operation on August 29 resulted in the inspection of 43 vehicles, with 11 directed to an inspection station. On that night, officers identified 50 vehicle defects, including modifications to engines, exhausts, wheels, and lights.

Police issued 34 infringement notices, while TfNSW inspectors issued four yellow labels, which require vehicles to be returned to their garaged addresses.
