Enhanced Battery Management and Efficiency: macOS 26.4 Introduces Charge Limit Feature and Shortcuts

macOS 26.4 brings battery Charge Limit to the Mac and Shortcuts

Apple has introduced a new feature called Charge Limit on Mac devices that allows users to set a maximum charge level to help extend battery health. Previously only available on iPhone and iPad, this feature has now been expanded to include Mac devices with the first beta of macOS 26.4.

When Charge Limit is enabled, the device will stop charging within a few percentage points of the set limit. This helps improve battery lifespan by reducing the strain caused by constantly charging to 100%. However, Apple notes that the device may occasionally still charge to the full 100% in order to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

To enable Charge Limit on your Mac, simply open Settings, go to the Battery section, and click the “info” symbol next to “Charging.”

In addition to Mac devices, the new iOS 26.4 and macOS 26.4 betas also bring Charge Limit to the Shortcuts app. This allows users to automate setting their Charge Limit, providing even more control over battery health.

Battery Charge Limit is a useful feature for extending battery health, especially for users who are not heavy users or are frequently near a charger. This feature may be particularly beneficial for MacBook users who often use their devices in desk setups where they can easily plug in.
