Enhanced Copilot Features Coming to Microsoft 365 Companion Apps

Microsoft is set to enhance its Microsoft 365 companion apps with more Copilot features in the upcoming weeks.

Currently, Copilot is only available within two companion apps, People and Files. However, Microsoft plans to expand Copilot to the Calendar companion app in the near future.

It’s important to note that Microsoft 365 companions are tailored for enterprises and businesses, meaning Microsoft 365 Personal users may not have access to these mini apps, at least for now.

Understanding Microsoft 365 Companions

With Microsoft 365 companion apps, users can conveniently access their company’s workplace directly from the taskbar.

For instance, the ‘People’ companion app allows users to access contextual information about individuals within their organization with just one click.

Moreover, the People mini-app enables users to search for contacts within the organization and send messages, facilitating seamless communication.

Another companion app, File Search, enables users to easily search for files located on their company’s OneDrive.

The Calendar companion app, which is likely the most popular, allows users to respond to meeting invites and chats directly from the taskbar.

Microsoft emphasizes that these companion apps, coupled with Copilot, can significantly enhance productivity for users.

“Copilot in People and Files is now available, with Copilot in Calendar set to be rolled out soon,” according to Yash Kamalanath, a Principal Product Manager at Microsoft 365.

Microsoft reveals that these apps now leverage Copilot to provide instant suggestions to users.

According to a recent blog post by Microsoft, these apps can help users catch up on the latest information from top collaborators, flag important comments, and recap missed meetings.

The integration of Copilot allows users to seamlessly transition from a simple search within a companion app to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, offering a full context for more complex inquiries without additional steps.

It appears that users may not have the option to disable Copilot within these companion apps, as Microsoft indicates that these AI agents are designed to expedite tasks efficiently.
