Enhanced Copy and Paste: On-Device AI Integration
Microsoft is enhancing its Advanced Paste tool within PowerToys for Windows 11 by introducing an on-device AI model to power its features. The 0.96 update now allows users to utilize Microsoft’s Foundry Local tool or the open-source Ollama for routing requests, both of which run AI models on the device’s neural processing unit (NPU) instead of relying on cloud connectivity. This means that users no longer need to purchase API credits for tasks such as AI translation or text summarization, as everything can be done locally on the device, ensuring data privacy.
In addition to on-device AI support, Advanced Paste now offers compatibility with various online models, including Azure OpenAI, Gemini, and Mistral, expanding beyond its previous support for OpenAI. The tool has also undergone a design update, displaying the current clipboard content and featuring a model selection drop-down menu for ease of use.
Overall, Microsoft’s upgraded Advanced Paste tool in PowerToys for Windows 11 provides users with enhanced functionality and improved privacy measures, making it a valuable addition for those looking to streamline their workflow and keep their data secure.
