Enhancing Communication with WhatsApp Web App Video and Voice Calls

WhatsApp has recently introduced video and voice call support on its web application.

The popular communication service now offers the capability to make calls directly from the web browser, expanding beyond its previous messaging-only functionality.

Previously, users had to download the dedicated application to access the full range of WhatsApp features on a larger screen. However, this is no longer necessary.

WABetainfo has identified the addition of individual chats in the beta version of WhatsApp’s web app, allowing users to initiate voice and video calls directly from their browser. This includes support for both voice and video calls, as shown in the accompanying screenshot.

Once fully launched, the web application is expected to support group chats with up to 32 participants, as well as features like call links and scheduled calls.

Additionally, users will have the ability to utilize the Screen Share function during web calls, allowing them to share their screen in real-time with other participants.

Despite concerns about security, all calls made through the web application will be automatically end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and data protection.

Linux users, in particular, will benefit from these expanded call capabilities due to the absence of a dedicated WhatsApp app on the platform.

At present, the enhanced calling features are only accessible to selected users participating in the WhatsApp Web beta program, with no definitive timeline for a wider release.

This update represents a positive development for WhatsApp, following recent announcements about the introduction of advertising on the platform. Users may soon have the option to pay a subscription fee to avoid ads.
