General Motors is gearing up to introduce digital car keys for select vehicles, which could soon be accessible through Apple Wallet. This development was uncovered by MacRumors, which found code indicating GM-specific settings within Apple’s internal list of Car Key-compatible vehicles.

At the recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple disclosed a lineup of 13 automakers, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC, that have committed to integrating the feature. GM appears to be swiftly embracing this technology, a positive shift considering its previous stance on CarPlay.

Other automakers mentioned in the 2025 WWDC announcement include Acura, Porsche, Rivian, Smart, Lucid Motors, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah. Following Apple’s revelation in June, GM also announced that digital car keys would be rolled out for select Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac models. However, specifics on which models will receive this feature remain undisclosed, with GM indicating that more details will be shared upon the launch of new vehicles. Reports from GMAuthority suggest that the feature may debut with the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, although GM has not officially confirmed these models.

Apple’s Car Key system enables iPhone and Apple Watch users to add eligible digital keys to the Wallet app. This functionality allows users to lock, unlock, and even start their vehicles without the need for a physical key fob. Initially introduced at WWDC 2020 with BMW as the sole launch partner, the expansion of Car Key to other automakers took longer than anticipated. The initial implementation relied on NFC technology, which required close proximity for operation. Despite the subsequent inclusion of Ultra Wideband (UWB) support in iOS 15, the feature remained exclusive to BMW vehicles until Hyundai announced its integration for Genesis and Kia models in early 2022.

Apple also disclosed plans for Voyah and Smart vehicles to support Car Key, with backend integration already in place. However, the full functionality has yet to be activated.

Existing vehicles offering Car Key support span various manufacturers. For instance, Audi models from 2025 onwards, select BMW vehicles, MINI, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, RAM, Volvo, and Lotus have been identified as compatible with Car Key.

During WWDC 2025, Apple announced that 13 automakers, including Acura, Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Porsche, Rivian, Smart, Lucid Motors, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah, would soon introduce vehicle models with iPhone car key compatibility. This expansion of Car Key support across multiple manufacturers enhances user convenience and safety, allowing digital keys to be easily shared with family members or friends via various platforms.

The integration of digital car keys into Apple Wallet signifies a significant advancement in vehicle access technology, offering users greater convenience and flexibility. As more automakers adopt this feature, the landscape of car key solutions is set to evolve, providing users with enhanced control and security over their vehicles. Transform the following:
