Exciting Updates Coming from BMW in 2026

2026 is set to be a significant year for BMW enthusiasts, with the unveiling of the next-generation 3 Series, X5, and the first-ever i3 sedan for global markets. Munich is not neglecting its flagship models either, as the 7 Series is due for a facelift. Recent spy shots of a camouflaged prototype give us a sneak peek into what to expect.

Spotted near the Nürburgring, the upcoming 7 Series LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) seems to be a standard combustion-engine version based on the license plate. Usually, BMW’s plug-in hybrid and electric test vehicles sport German plates ending with an “E.” This particular model, codenamed “G70,” is likely a US-spec prototype, indicated by the orange side markers required in the United States.

The distinctive split headlights on the 7 Series are here to stay, as confirmed by the latest sighting. This design feature will also be retained on the second-generation X7 expected in 2027. However, it appears that no other BMW models will adopt this unique look, except for the ALPINA variants of the 7 Series and X7.

Notable changes on the facelifted 7 Series include a slightly smaller front grille, although some parts of the kidneys are obscured by camouflaged panels. New horizontal slats above the license plate and a higher placement of the license plate itself are also evident. At the rear, updated taillight graphics hint at minor changes without a complete overhaul.

Production of the revamped 7 Series is reportedly commencing in July, with an anticipated official debut in the spring or early summer. Rumors suggest a more powerful “B58” six-cylinder engine for the 735 variant, along with the removal of the “i” suffix from combustion-engine models in line with recent BMW releases.

BMW enthusiasts can also look forward to the return of the ALPINA version, expected to feature the updated B58 engine. Unlike its predecessor, the new ALPINA model is rumored to include an electric version known as the i7 70 xDrive. While a 2026 unveiling is possible, customer deliveries may not begin until the following year.
