Collaborative efforts between X-energy and Energy Northwest, a consortium of Washington public utilities, have been ongoing since 2020, with Amazon’s entrance into the venture further catalyzing progress.
Amazon’s substantial investment of $700 million in X-energy, along with a commitment of $334 million towards crucial developmental stages, underscores the tech giant’s dedication to supporting innovative energy solutions.

Situated in close proximity to Energy Northwest’s Columbia Generating Station nuclear plant, the Cascade Advanced Energy Facility is poised to house a cluster of small modular reactors capable of generating up to 320 megawatts initially, with plans for a total of 12 reactors producing nearly one gigawatt of power.
Assuming successful funding, permitting, and community backing, construction of the facility is anticipated to commence within the next five years, with operational readiness expected in the 2030s.
