According to a report from Android Headlines, the brand is being dismantled by its parent company, Oppo.

Author Alexander Maxham refers to a “three-continent investigation” and claims that the conclusions have been corroborated by market data from four independent analyst firms.

The evidence continues to mount

Android Headlines cites multiple pieces of evidence that indicate the potential demise of OnePlus.

Initially, the decline in sales figures, with a reported 20% decrease in global shipments in 2024, raised concerns.

In its primary markets, the loss of momentum has been particularly significant.

According to IDC data, OnePlus witnessed a 32.6% decline in market share in India in 2024, plummeting to a mere 3.9%. Approximately 4,500 stores reportedly shut down in the country around the same period.

In China, OnePlus aimed to surpass Xiaomi’s 3% market share, necessitating a 50% growth. However, it experienced a 20% decline instead.

Android Headlines asserts that a significant 74% of all OnePlus shipments originate from China and India. In contrast, its presence in other regions like Europe and North America has been significantly impacted, prompting Maxham to describe the situation as “a brand on the brink of collapse.”

A regrettable potential conclusion

If OnePlus indeed faces an imminent end, it will mark a disappointing conclusion for a brand that has made significant contributions to the tech industry.

Since its inception with the invite-only OnePlus One in 2014, OnePlus has injected vitality into the smartphone market with a series of high-profile launches. It successfully transitioned from being a “flagship killer” to offering flagship devices while also catering to mid-range and budget-conscious consumers.

The latest flagship model, the OnePlus 15, stands out as one of the top smartphones available. Additionally, the OnePlus Pad 3 offers exceptional value in the tablet market, and the OnePlus Watch 2R and Watch 3 serve as compelling alternatives to smartwatches from Google and Samsung.
