Bungie finally admit they messed up Destiny 2

Destiny 2: Bungie Acknowledges Mistakes and Announces Changes

Following a wave of negative feedback and declining player numbers, Bungie has publicly recognized their missteps with Destiny 2. In their recent This Week At Bungie (TWAB) update, they addressed the community’s concerns.

“With the Edge of Fate expansion, we introduced a new direction for Destiny 2, focusing on a deeper pursuit of Power and gear progression across a variety of activities. However, it became evident quickly that this approach did not resonate with our players.”

Reflecting on their decisions, Bungie admitted that the grind for Power should never overshadow the sense of accomplishment in earning meaningful rewards. They acknowledged the importance of player feedback and the need to prioritize player agency, rewarding gameplay, and social interactions.

Throughout updates 9.0.0 to 9.1.5, Bungie’s team has been dedicated to addressing player feedback promptly and effectively. Their goal has been to enhance rewards, empower players in their activity choices, and remove barriers to cooperative play.

As Destiny has evolved over the past decade, Bungie recognizes the dynamic nature of the game and the importance of learning from both successes and failures. They expressed gratitude for the community’s support as they refine their long-term strategy for the franchise.

The controversial Portal mechanic and power grind faced criticism for limiting gameplay diversity and forcing repetitive activities. In response, updates 9.5.0 and 9.5.0.1 will introduce significant changes to address these issues.

Key Changes Coming to Destiny 2

  • Expanded Power Progression:

    • Players will have wider access to Power progression, particularly in Expansion content. They can now reach the Power cap directly through Renegades activities.

  • Seasonal Power and Featured Gear:

    • All Exotic weapons and armor will be featured, and Power catch-up mechanics will be streamlined for a more seamless experience.

  • Vault Upgrades:

    • Vault capacity has been increased by 300 slots to 1000, with additional improvements to the filtering system for easier item management.

Excited for the upcoming Renegades activities, many Guardians are looking forward to rejoining the fight in Destiny 2. Will you be joining them?
