Big Google Home update lets Gemini describe live camera feeds

Google Home Updates Smart Home Platform with Live Search Feature

Anish Kattukaran, the chief of Google Home, recently unveiled a series of updates to the smart home platform aimed at addressing various issues and quirks. One standout addition is the introduction of “Live Search” for camera feeds.

With Live Search, Gemini can now analyze live camera footage in real-time, allowing users to inquire about current events, such as whether a car is in the driveway. To access this feature, users need to subscribe to the Advanced plan of Google Home Premium, priced at $20 per month or $200 per year.

Furthermore, Gemini for Home has been upgraded to utilize updated models, enhancing the accuracy of responses to general queries and facilitating the playback of newly released songs.

In addition, Gemini now possesses improved contextual understanding, enabling more precise control over smart devices. For instance, issuing a command to “turn off the kitchen” will now only affect the lights in that specific room, rather than all smart devices. Similarly, commands like “turn off all the lights” will target devices in the current location, avoiding unintended actions in other managed locations, such as a cabin or a parent’s home.
