iOS 26 beta 8 now available

Apple has recently released the eighth developer beta version of iOS 26. The much-anticipated redesigned version of the iPhone software is expected to be officially launched in approximately one month.

The upcoming iPhone software update, iOS 26, is described by Apple as delivering a stunning new design, powerful Apple Intelligence capabilities, new ways to stay connected in the Phone and Messages apps, and exciting updates to CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, and Wallet.

Some design tweaks were observed in iOS 26 beta 2, including legibility improvements for Control Center, better menu organization in Safari, and stronger accessibility options with borders added to High Contrast Mode.

iOS 26 beta 3 introduced opaqueness to some transparent tab bars alongside new wallpaper colors. Beta 4 later reverted these opaqueness tweaks. Notably, Notification Center still uses absolute transparency when pulled down until fully open, a feature that may be subject to change.

Additionally, iOS 26 beta 4 reintroduced notification summaries for news and entertainment apps. This feature was paused previously due to complaints that text summaries could alter the meaning of headlines.

iOS 26 beta 5 addressed user feedback by bringing back the Select button in Mail, adding a toggle to revert to the classic Camera mode swipe direction, and more.

Subsequent beta versions made further changes, such as removing the Camera swipe direction toggle, adding faster animations, and introducing a new “drafts” section in Messages.

As iOS 26 progresses, older iPhones may require an upgrade to access the latest features and design enhancements. iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone 11 and newer models are compatible with iOS 26, while iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max will run the last version, iOS 18. Features utilizing Apple Intelligence necessitate iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 family model.
