GitHub is launching a hub for multiple AI coding agents

GitHub Introduces Agent HQ for Developers

GitHub has unveiled a new feature called “Agent HQ,” which gives developers access to third-party AI coding agents. This initiative expands beyond GitHub Copilot to include OpenAI’s Codex, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Jules, xAI, and Cognition’s Devin. In the upcoming months, developers will have the opportunity to try out these AI coding agents directly within GitHub.

Mission Control Dashboard for GitHub Copilot Subscribers

Developers subscribed to GitHub Copilot will gain access to a new “mission control” dashboard. This dashboard will allow developers to manage, control, and track multiple AI coding agents efficiently. According to GitHub COO Kyle Daigle, the introduction of a new set of AI controls aims to provide a comprehensive control plane for all agent usage on GitHub, whether it involves GitHub’s coding agent or one of the partner coding agents integrated into the platform.

Running Multiple AI Agents in Parallel

GitHub’s Agent HQ will enable developers to run multiple AI agents concurrently while they work on the same task. This feature allows developers to compare the output of different agents and choose the one that best suits their preferences. Leading up to the official launch of Agent HQ, GitHub is offering OpenAI Codex to Copilot Pro Plus users participating in the VS Code Insiders program.

New Tools and Features

In addition to Agent HQ, GitHub is introducing several other tools to enhance the developer experience. One such tool is Plan Mode in VS Code, which leverages Copilot to create a step-by-step plan for tasks that the AI coding agent will execute. Furthermore, GitHub is integrating a code review step into Copilot, allowing the agent to utilize tools like CodeQL to evaluate code before presenting it to the developer.
