Google Chrome Enhances Protection with AI Models

Google Chrome has introduced a new feature that allows users to delete the local AI models that power the “Enhanced Protection” feature. This feature, which was upgraded with AI capabilities last year, aims to provide real-time protection against dangerous websites, downloads, and extensions.

The Enhanced Protection feature has been a part of Chrome for a few years now, but it received an update last year with undisclosed AI models. These AI models are designed to offer advanced protection by identifying potentially harmful sites in real-time, even those that have not been previously flagged by Google.

Although the specifics of how the AI-powered feature differs from the previous version are unclear, Google may be leveraging AI technology to analyze patterns and proactively warn users about potential threats.

According to Google, the AI protection feature also conducts thorough scans for suspicious downloads, enhancing overall security measures.

Recently, Google confirmed that the Enhanced Protection feature is powered by an AI model that is hosted on the user’s device through Google Chrome.

Users can now delete these AI models behind the AI-powered Enhanced Protection by navigating to Chrome settings and turning off the “On-device GenAI” option.

Furthermore, it appears that the local AI model in Chrome will not only support scam detection but also power other upcoming features.

This functionality is currently available in Chrome Canary and is expected to be rolled out to all users in the near future.
