Google March Pixel Update: Enhancements to Always-on Display Feature

Google released its March Pixel Drop update a few weeks ago, but it seems a troublesome display bug may have slipped through alongside the new features.

On the Google Pixel Reddit page, some users have reported major issues with the Always-on Display function on their Pixel 10 and Pixel 9 phones following the March update.

“My phone froze on me while using the Always-on Display screen while driving and using android auto through Bluetooth,” shared Google Pixel 10 Pro user WafflesAndBacon1997. “I had to force reset the phone.”

Others have also faced similar problems, with R3Dix stating: “My Pixel 10 Pro has frozen several times while locked. AOD items appear on top of a black background lock screen. I have to force reboot to get it working again.”

Several Pixel 10 and Pixel 9 users have confirmed the tendency for their phones to freeze on the Always-on Display screen, requiring a hard reboot to resolve the issue.

It appears that the AOD function is indeed the culprit, as disabling it seems to prevent the freezing incidents. One user even tried a full factory reset without success.

As of now, older Pixel models seem unaffected by the bug, giving Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 users a reason to feel relieved.

While Google has not officially acknowledged the bug yet, it is likely working on a solution. Pixel owners have come to expect occasional bugs with the free feature updates.

It seems like a trade-off that Pixel owners have accepted for the regular feature enhancements.
