Google to Soon Expand AirDrop Support to More Android Devices
Google to Expand AirDrop Support to Non-Pixel Android Devices
In a recent press briefing, Eric Kay, vice president of engineering for Android, announced that Google is planning to extend AirDrop support, known as Quick Share on Android devices, to phones made by other Android partners. This move comes after the successful introduction of AirDrop support for Pixel 10 devices last year.
Enhancing Cross-Device Communication
Kay emphasized Google’s efforts to ensure compatibility not only with iPhones but also iPads and MacBooks. The company is working closely with its partners to make Quick Share available on a wider range of Android devices, with exciting announcements expected soon.
Expanding Quick Share Features
Currently, only Google’s Pixel 10 phones support Quick Share for direct communication with Apple’s AirDrop. However, Google has hinted at collaborations with other Android partners, including Nothing and Qualcomm, to expand this feature to more devices in the near future.
Improving Data Transfer for iOS Users
Kay also discussed Google’s efforts to enhance the data transfer process for iOS users switching to Android. By addressing issues like incomplete data transfers and lost messages, Google aims to provide a seamless transition experience. Collaborative efforts with Apple have been observed, with a focus on user-friendly data transfer methods.
Streamlining Data Transfer Process
In addition to expanding AirDrop support, Google is working on simplifying the data transfer process for users switching between devices. Ensuring a smooth transition and comprehensive data transfer is a top priority for the company, with ongoing developments in this area.
