Google Introduces Customizable Calling Cards for Android Contacts and Phone Apps

Google has recently launched customizable calling cards for the beta versions of its Android Contacts and Phone apps. The feature, discovered by Android Authority during an APK teardown in July, allows users to personalize their contact information displayed during calls. Unlike Apple’s approach, where users can only set their own photo and name for outgoing calls, Google’s implementation lets users customize the information displayed when receiving calls.

Users with access to the beta Contacts app on Android will now see a prompt to “Try adding a calling card” when viewing a contact’s details. This feature enables users to select a photo from their gallery or take a new one with their camera for each contact. Additionally, users can adjust the font type and color for the contact’s name, which will be displayed on the screen during incoming calls.

While some users may find this feature familiar, as Samsung has had a similar profile card feature for some time, Google’s calling cards offer a new level of customization for Android users. The feature is now being rolled out globally, with users needing to update their Google Phone app to version v188 to access it. Google notes that the rollout will happen in phases, so some users may not receive the feature immediately.
